ROLLING STONE RESPONSIVE
SITE REDESIGN

the ASK
This project was to redesign and fully program a responsive news / magazine site. I decided to focus on a publication I have been reading and engaging with for years; Rolling Stone.

the visual solution
By combining rich tones and vibrant visual elements with an airy layout I was able to pivot Rolling Stone towards the modern user while upholding the integrity of their unique message.
immersive interaction
Something that Rolling Stones lacked was moments of play where the user is rewarded for interacting with the site. Above when the user hovers over the albums they disperse to show a grid view, while displaying the rating of each album (featured below in video). This provides the user with an immersive and engaging experience.
implementing grid systems
Establishing a repeatable grid system for each of the article sections allowed for the content to be cohesive throughout the site but also allow for variability.
ad integration
The inclusion of ads in news and magazine websites is unavoidable. With that in mind, I sought to create a solution that included ads without being visually jarring. The example above shows a Spotify ad that aligns with Rolling Stones' brand, while leading the user to experience Spotify.

execution
The video below showcases the site once it was designed and fully programmed. This site was developed for desktop view and utilizes breakpoints to allow the design to be responsive for both tablet and mobile.
design considerations
The full view of the Landing Page design shows the implementation of the article grid system. In order to keep the layout of the site from feeling too repetitive overlapping and interactive elements are included throughout.
